Change the Handedness of a Reference by SenshiStock Change the Handedness of a Reference by SenshiStock
What kind of tutorial is this? A life tutorial?

Fun fact: if you horizontally flip an image, it will change the handedness of the model! It's so simple, but I know many people who might not think to try it! ^_^

Huzzah! Now all those right handed models can be used for your left handed characters! :la:

Works for other activities like shooting, eating, swords, etc.

Also on tumblr.

There is a problem... when I need the character to look left handed but looking at the same direction that the right handed pciture was looking at xD Also... for some reason when I flip and image it just doesn't look as good... sometimes it's easier to draw a character looking to the left side but then if I need it looking to the right and I just flip the image... I dunno why but it just doesn't look right... like something changed even though it's the same image xD

Although this is without a doubt helpful, I would still recommend finding "real" left-handed reference, at least starting out, because very often they hold paper and pen differently.

Might want to add that even if you do flip the reference picture, you also might want to change the direction the paper is facing, because they have to write a different way than right-ies to avoid rubbing their hand over the fresh ink and smudging it. Just a thought! Great method though! ^.^

Kinda sad how many people don't consider such option.

Though problem is still there if the artist likes everything about the composition besides the handedness of the model. And shifting the image horizontally changes the composition.

My mom was left-handed, and she grew up when if you wrote with your left hand, they'd smack it with a ruler (it also could have been a Catholic school....)...

Anyway, if people who are left handed were not corrected when writing, they'd end up with, what my mom called a "hook hand" where the person who was writing would curve their arm and wrist so they could see what it was they were writing (since we write left-to-right, the hand would cover what was already written). She said she felt sorry for them, and she loved finding out actors or random people were left-handed. ^_^

lol... sorry for the long post, just a random tidbit. O_________O Sorry.

I wasn't smacked but I was in fact forced by my teachers to become right handed when I started to learn to write when I was a kid u.u

I really have no idea why they do that. It's not harmful to be left-handed. It's just silly to do that. :[
Did you ever switch back to your right-hand? o3o

Uh? O.o But I was originaly left handed then forced to become right handed. I never switched back to be left handed xD however I can do certain things with my left hand that I should normaly do with my right hand though o3o

Gladly these days lefties are accepted – but not everywhere.
My mother experienced the same treatment and was so sad when she found out that I am a lefty too. She talked to my teacher about this and about changing me to be a righty – and I still love her for what she said: She told that it is WRONG to make left-handers to right-handers! It should not be done! Because if left-handed people are forced to write with the right they may get extreme problems with their brain connections and will be very clumsy at the end and never be satisfied with their writing or any other things they do (because of their connections in the brain which totally gets confused when changing them suddenly to a right-handed way).

I am glad that I am a lefty, never got some sort of hook hand (at least I do not realize it) and I am totally satisfied that my teacher was modern and didn’t change my hands. :)
