Current Update, Feb 9: It seems that the artworks created with the DA stock models have been taken down from all sites. This is good news! I hope the artist will be in touch with the models they have used. It seems possible through what I've heard from these models in their research that this artist may have found these images on a 'free stock' site. Please be aware of any site that is set up with a huge variety of fabulous, high quality images for commercial use, for free. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Original Post:

An Italian artist has been using stock images from DA's portrait models as the source of her professional work without notifying the models or crediting them. In most cases, these models do not allow commercial use of their stock without permission.

Here is a list of models discovered to have been used so far.

:iconniniel-stocks: (user is no longer active but this deviation Before and After Model by TheWorldIsTooSmall used and credited the same stock) used in

RobynRose was the first to notice the use of her image without permission.

I suspect that since so many of these works share a similar source it is likely that many others in the gallery have their source in DA's stock galleries.

This is a serious matter to which I would like to bring more attention. If you are using someone's face in your artwork, be sure you have that person's permission before you go about selling it.

That's why I pay for stock that allows commercial work if I need to... What the hell is wrong with people?

Ouch! That scared me because my first name is Valentina! But I know the rules and would SO give credit and ask permission before I'd dare, plus I'm not Italian (even though my name is Latin). I've just been getting into using the lovely stock photography here at DA, and so far have not used any of it for commercial use, and the paintings and drawings I've created are credited to the models here!

I admire your hard work, Senshi!

Maybe i'm the odd one out here. But some of his stuff is really beautiful. It's a shame to see it taken down. Honestly i think you guys are being a tad petty. You could just ask him to put credit where credit is due and ask maybe for an apology. Maybe i'm just biased because the artwork is about the beauty of a blemished body, something no one appreciates anymore.

If you don't watermark your stock like a proper professional, you really are asking for your stock images to get used without permission. That's how stock images on the rest of the internet works. *le shrug*
